Equipet was purchased by Wayne and Ruth Gray in December 1990, then as a two vet, four nurse and three receptionist veterinary centre. It evolved from the first veterinary treatment centre set up in Kirkcaldy, originally in Milton Road and later Links Street. Since 1990 we have continuously strived to provide an even better service, and in 1998 were proud to become Fife’s first, and as yet only, Veterinary Hospital. Any practice is allowed to be called an animal hospital, but not a Veterinary Hospital, a title that assures your loved ones of the highest standards of care in the UK. We have the very best medical and surgical facilities, housed within a purpose built Hospital. A veterinary nurse is on duty at the Hospital 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, to look after hospitalised inpatients and to assist the duty vet. A veterinary surgeon is always on call and available for emergency cases as necessary. Yet we haven’t forgotten that your pet is a loved family member, and we look after them as if they were one of our own.

The Hospital has thrived, and now comprises twenty four members, four being original, and most of the remaining having been around for at least half of that time. We think that’s the best advert for a happy friendly team! Ruth Gray has been at the helm alone until recently, but now is joined by Wayne, who wants to improve the service even further. So there’s no better time to make some changes to your practice if you want them - and if you can convince us that it’s a good idea!

There are six full time and part-time veterinary surgeons, and five fully qualified veterinary nurses. Two nurses are in their second year of training, and one in her first, as the hospital is also an official training centre. Continual Professional Development (CPD) ensures that the most modern treatment is always available, and every member has his or her own areas of special interest so that fortunately there is little overlap. The team runs an increasing number of health clubs - we want to help your pet before it’s ill! These clubs include Weight Watchers (for overweight pets - not owners!), the Good Food club (for those on special diets, and not followers of Egon Ronay), Furry Friends club (for children’s pets & exotics), and Fresh Breath club (for dental cases). There is a Youth club (for the adolescents), an Upwardly Mobile club (for arthritic pets), a Faithful Friends club (for geriatrics) and Club Chaos (for behavioural cases). These all play an important role in helping your pet to get as much out of life as possible, but to be honest, are fun for us as well! Our Puppy Parties have always been popular.

We want to be a practice where you feel that you can ask advice at any time. We are not so proud that we won’t change if you have a good idea, and if there is something you don’t like, then we want to know. We want to care for you as well as your pet.
